Since 1970, men and women worldwide have gained more than 10 years of life expectancy overall, but they spend more years living with injury and illness. No one wants to add more time on the planet if those extra years are spent in pain or immobilized in a hospital or nursing home.

Transformation Starts With Awareness
Whatever change you want to make, we begin with awareness of where you are and where you want to be.
You know the tightness in your body and stress in your life is not serving you. As you age, if you continue the way you are, your body will be in pain and you will have limited mobility. In addition, your stress will take years off your life.
Americans spend in excess of $50 billion per year on back-related pain, with many therapies such as anti-inflammatory medications providing only modest or temporary relief.
My program suggests a different approach to pain relief. It begins by viewing pain as a mind-body experience.
Pain is a teacher and we need to listen to it. Physical pain can point to something out of alignment in the body. It can also carry the message that we need to change something in life, or in our mental or emotional landscape. Your body is not separate from your life. The body is the microcosm of how you are living. Your biography becomes your biology.
It is one of the ironies of human life that we don’t really know that much about how to take proper care of our body. We live in a culture where some 80 percent of health care costs are caused by chronic diseases that are largely preventable through healthy lifestyle measures. Yet, the cultural influences we are exposed to through the media, ads and even what is on supermarket shelves, make it very hard to decipher exactly what’s good for us and what’s not.
It’s easier than you think to heal your body. I have had many injuries over the years, and I’ve healed through refined practices and using alignment in my yoga practice. I’m not opposed to using the traditional medical model to heal. At the same time I am a firm believer in the efficacy of yoga and lifestyle practices to bring integration, wholeness, and healing on a deeper, more sustainable level.
It is time to learn how to live in your body. We are never taught this essential skill in school.
