we are challenged to change ourselves.

Busyness Is Laziness?

May 19, 2014 | Categorized in Filed Under: Connected to Spirit, Discover Purpose

Today’s world offers non-stop distractions and makes implicit cultural demands to move faster and harder. So many of us keep a tight and full schedule as a defense mechanism so that we can unconsciously be “lazy” and not create time to deal with the deeper and often difficult issues in our lives. As soon as […]

A letter home from when I was 21 years old and living in South Africa: Robben Island, A Potent Symbol of Freedom, Saturday FEBRUARY 5, 2000 Today I headed to Robben Island, one of the worlds most potent symbols of freedom. A place where for 400 years colonial and apartheid rulers banished those they regarded […]

Is Meditation Overrated?

Is Meditation Overrated? One of my clients asked me the other day if I thought meditation is overrated. Let me tell you about my experience and you decide for yourself. In the mid-90s, I was deeply attracted to anything out of the ordinary that involved altered states of consciousness. No wonder that as a hippie […]

When the Hurricane Got Personal

November 12, 2012 | Categorized in Filed Under: Connected to Spirit, Discover Purpose

On Hurricanes and Realizations: Living in downtown New York City I was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Not because its brute force knocked out my electricity for days. Not because Sandy turned my Tribeca neighborhood into a rubbish-strewn, blacked-out, evacuated community. Not because, despite my best efforts, it robbed me of my comforts, livelihood and […]

How Does Your Garden Grow?

March 1, 2012 | Categorized in Filed Under: Connected to Spirit, Discover Purpose, Travel Journal

A decade ago, my friend and yoga teacher, Jordan Mallah, was a Peace Corps Volunteer in La Grama. Every few years since, he’s arranged a “service” trip where he convinces a group of people from the United States to come build a local library, or assist on a town-wide water project. The 2011 project was to plant an organic vegetable garden behind el colegio, the local grammar school.

“In just a short time working with Jordan, I have significantly improved my sense of physical and mental balance. This also helps with faster recovery times from indulgence and illness. Jordan brings a very pleasant balance in his teaching between intensity and focus and lightness and joy. Jordan is a natural guide and teacher. He has excellent emotional range and is really engaged. He is present in every sense of the word. Jordan has a unique perspective on the demands of modern life in a big city. He truly understands how demanding the challenges are of creating time and space to work on oneself, and alters his programs to accommodate even someone like me, a lawyer working long hours with lots of travel. If you are willing to make a commitment to yourself, he will match that commitment completely. And the results will make life significantly better. If you are even remotely considering working with Jordan, my advice is DO IT!  Invest the time and money in yourself. The return will be exponential.”
